Alice Springs, NT

Every country has a special place; a beating heart that captures the spirit of the nation. Australia’s heart is Uluru. No matter how many photos of it you’ve seen, nothing can ever prepare you for the feeling you get when you first see it rising out of the horizon. While the highlight of this trip is a guided hike around the base of Uluru, your safari will also find you getting up close and personal with camels, exploring the domes of Kata Tjuta, trekking around Kings Canyon, and sleeping under the stars. A truly life-changing experience.

Day 1: Alice Springs to Uluru

One hump or two? After heading off from Alice Springs, you’ll visit a camel farm in the desert, where you’ll learn everything we ever wanted to know about dromedaries but were too afraid to ask - you might even get a bumpy ride. Then it’s off to Kata Tjuta for lunch and an afternoon hike. Kata Tjuta is lesser known than Uluru, but one of Australia’s most remarkable sights; 36 domes of rock, rising straight out of the red desert earth. Back at camp you’ll enjoy a delicious spread of food with your group, and if the weather permits, sit outside under a billion stars.

Permanent tented camp (with shared facilities)

Inclusions

Meals Included:

  • Lunch and dinner

Included Activities

  • Uluru & Kata Tjuta National Park Entrance
Day 2: Uluru

An early start is rewarded with an Uluru sunrise. While the morning is fresh, you’ll take an interpretive cultural walk around the base of the rock. Our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander guide will regale you with Uluru Dreamtime stories, and provide insights into the land and the local Mala Peoples. After lunch there’ll be an opportunity to purchase some local art and craft at the Uluru Cultural Centre. Then you’ll travel onto the exclusive campsite within Watarrka National Park (Kings Canyon) where we’ll be staying the night.

Note: Total driving time today is around three-and-a-half hours. Total walking time is approximately two hours (or up to four if you do the full 8.5km base walk.)

Permanent tented camp (with shared facilities)

Inclusions

Meals Included:

  • Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Included Activities

  • Uluru Cultural Centre & Maruku Arts Cultural Experience
Day 3: Kings Canyon Rim Walk

The main attraction at Watarrka is undoubtedly Kings Canyon; an enormous gorge rising 270 metres above sea level and 440 million years in the making. The canyon’s shady walls offer a welcome respite from the dry desert heat, with soaring domes and plateaus plummeting to an ancient oasis of rock pools teaming with flora and fauna. Your guide will take you to the most famous sites, including The Lost City, Garden of Eden, Amphitheatre and the North and South Walls. Then it’s lunch, rest, and back to Alice to say farewell.
