Broome to Darwin 4WD tour | by Adventure Tours

Get pumped for the adventure ahead! We’ll meet early in the morning in the easy-going tourist town of Broome with a striking coastline before setting off to the wild, wild west. We’ll cruise along the highway until we reach the Fitzroy River, and then it’s all off-road to the Napier Range. We’ll get a chance to stretch the legs on a guided walk-through Tunnel Creek, a vast cave system that extends 750 metres underground.

Day 1: Broome - Tunnel Creek National Park

Today we’re driving to Windjana Gorge, once an underwater reef just 350 million years ago. During the wet season a river flows all the way through it, but when dry it’s mostly a series of ponds and billabongs. We might even see freshwater crocodiles out in the sun as we wander past the impressive rock walls on either side of the gorge reaching heights of 30 to 100m. Bell Gorge (if open) displays a cascade of water flowing from the previous wet season rains that fall in the King Leopold Ranges. Take a dip in the large plunge pool for an afternoon swim before we head to our camp along the Gibb River Road.

Day 2: Windjana Gorge to Mt. Barnett

In the morning, we’ll explore Manning gorge with a hike that will take us to the large rock pool at the base of Manning Falls. Enjoy a swim in its cool fresh waters before we head to Galvins gorge to spend the afternoon. This is an easy 1km trail and one of the prettiest short walks in the Kimberly with a multi-tiered waterfall that drops into a reflective pool. Relax out in this gorgeous spot of nature to your heart’s content and then head back to camp to share stories around the campfire.

Day 3: Manning Gorge (Mt. Barnett)

We’re getting our ride on today with a full day of 4WD driving, fording rivers and weaving through gorges along the wild Gibb River Road. This is a 600-kilometre stretch that winds through the heart of the Kimberley. Feel the exhilarating liberation of passing through the remotest, wildest, and most beautiful regions in the world. Cross the Pentecost River to reach the famous El Questro Station. We’re setting up camp here to spend the night under the vast expanse of stars.

Day 4: Gibb River Road to El Questro 

Wake up at leisure this morning – we’re spending the day exploring the amazing sights of the nearby El Questro Station in the heart of the Kimberley. We’ll relax with a swim at beautiful Zebedee Springs, a natural thermal spring surrounded by a forest of tall palms and rocks. Then, we’ll lace up for a hike into either Emma Gore or El Questro Gorge that takes us to a stunning waterfall and swimming hole with crystal clear waters. We’re staying one more night at the El Questro campsite where you might choose to enjoy a well-earned drink at the station bar with your travel mates.&nbsp;

Day 5: El Questro Station

We leave camp today for Bungle Bungles. Our 4WD adventure takes us through the rugged landscape of Carr Boyd and the Durack Ranges into Purnululu National Park. This park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site dominated by massive sandstone karsts rising hundreds of metres above the surrounding grasslands. We’ll set up our bush camp tonight and watch the glorious sunset over the Osmond Ranges. Tonight, you might want to opt for a dazzling sleep under the stars snuggled up in a swag.

Day 6: Purnululu National Park (Bungle Bungle Range) 

Make sure you have a hearty breakfast for today’s full itinerary. We’re exploring the remarkable rock formations of the Bungle Bungle Range, hiking the red gap of Echidna Chasm and the immense Cathedral Gorge, and even take a helicopter flight if you choose ( (at your own expense).&nbsp;

Day 9: Lake Argyle to the Katherine region 

Congratulations on reaching the end of this epic trip! We’ll stop at either the secluded gorge of Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) or take one last plunge for the trip into the cool waters of Edith Falls for our final hurrah. In the afternoon, make your way to Darwin for your final pit stop.
