Airlie Beach, QLDEverything about the Great Barrier Reef is stupendous. Stretching 2,300 kilometres along the Queensland coast, it is an interlinked system of some 3,000 reefs, 900 islands, and home to a third of the world’s coral. It is also the only living structure on earth that can be seen from outer space. This 6 day tour is like a showreel of reef highlights, from the Instagram worthy sands of Whitehaven Beach, to the koalas of Magnetic Island.

Itinerary & Map
We kick off our adventure in Airlie Beach at noon, meeting at Base Backpackers. Then we'll bond over a delicious ‘welcome dinner’ before a free night to explore this laid-back tropical town.

Today sees us sail to one of the most famous stretches of sand in the world, Whitehaven Beach, where we will go snorkelling and have lunch.

Snorkel some of the best coral reefs in Australia.
You are free to explore Airlie Beach. Kick back on the beach, and explore the local boutiques, bistros, and alfresco restaurants.
We start off our day with a train journey, soaking up the beautiful east coast scenery. Next we board a ferry and cruise across to the captivating Magnetic Island. The island is well worth exploring, with its kilometres of coastal walking trails. There’ll be plenty of time for hiking and/or trying out some water sports. In the evening you’ll be treated to a glass of bubbles, while watch the sun setting over the bay.

Kick off the day with a chef-cooked breakfast, at the Bungalow Bay Koala Village. Then we can check out some of the walking trails, such as the Forts Walk, which offers up stunning views of the Palm Island Group as well as WWII fortifications. There’s also the opportunity to see more koalas in the wild, or enjoy some free time at Horseshoe Bay, taking a dip in the ocean and relaxing on the beach. We’ll see Magnetic Island's resident rock wallabies at dusk before a free evening, watching the sunset and checking out some of the local bars.

After breakfast we'll depart Magnetic Island via
ferry. Our trip ends this morning back in Townsville, however an optional train
to Cairns with the rest of the group is available; chat to your travel agent to add this on.
